Face Lift Surgical - Endoscopic

Introduction

This procedure often benefits the younger patient and is sometimes combined with an endoscopic brow lift. The skin still needs to be elastic and it mainly addresses the upper and midface. No skin is removed during this procedure and the benefit really comes from re-positioning of the deeper tissue over the cheekbones to produce a more youthful appearance.

The surgery

The procedure is normally performed under a general anaesthetic. Three sets of incisions are required - in the temporal hairline, just under the lower eyelid lashes and a small incision inside the mouth. The fat bags of the lower eyelid can easily be corrected at the same time. You normally stay in the hospital for one night. The sutures and clips are normally removed between 10-12 days after the surgery.

Complications

You will be swollen and bruised for at least 14 days. A burst blood vessel can cause a haematoma that may need to be drained. There is a small chance of infection and damage to the nerve that supplies the forehead muscles. The cheeks may feel numb but will normally recover over months.

After the surgery

You should try and sleep in the upright position with a few pillows to help reduce swelling. Strenuous activities should be avoided for the first two weeks after the surgery. You can wash your hair under the shower but should avoid colouring your hair for the first 4 weeks after surgery.
